In 1905, Einstein demonstrated the connection between time and space. Fast forward, in time and space, Zanis & Co. is bringing us the Nuvati, the first watch to contain fragments from the Moon, the Mars and other space gems, as well as 70 floating diamonds.

Zanis & Co. is a rare gem in itself; believe it or not it is a Canadian watch company, with a head office in Toronto. In February 2013, the founder John Kanakis met with the seasoned business executive and serial entrepreneur Bob Gilson and convinced him to join in as CEO. Their mantra is “Be amazing” and their first timepiece, the Nuvati bears this motto in every detail.

To build the Nuvati watches, Zanis is working with the professional meteorite hunter Steve Arnold, who is their Lead Authenticator. The gems that go into the Nuvati are also going trough a secondary chemical analysis at some of the world’s top laboratories and museums. Every watch comes with a certificate of authenticity and upon registration; the owner receives the exact story of where the piece of the Moon, Mars and space gems were found.

Limited to 600 pieces, the Nuvati comes in two sizes and many color combinations and its unisex look makes it attractive to both men and women. To see the entire list of their offering, check out their website at www.zanis.com.

I really like their philosophical approach to design and that they want to tell a story beyond simple aesthetics. Wishing them good luck in their conquest of space and time, I’m really curios what the future is holding for Zanis.

As a graphic designer, I'm fascinated by the crossroads between technology and aesthetics. Horology is one of these crafts, where art and engineering come together to produce mechanical wonders that grace the eye. WatchPaper was born from the desire to create an online tool where I can share my passion for watches.
