Oris BC4 Flight Timer wins RedDot design award

Hölstein, 3rd May 2009 – With its innovative and outstanding design, the Oris BC4 Flight Timer has won a 2009 red dot: best of the best Award in the category of Product Design. Today the red dot design award is the best known and most competitive international design prize.

Just 49 products from the 3231 that were entered from companies in 49 different countries were given a best of the best accolade in 2009.

The international red dot jury takes many criteria – including innovation, functionality, quality, longevity and user-friendliness – into consideration before making its decision.

The BC4 Flight Timer was recognised for its many outstanding design features, including its ability to display three time zones simultaneously on one dial. This is made possible by the Oris-developed Worldtimer movement.

The compass and innovative folding clasp design also helped to convince the jury.

Oris’ Product Development Manager, Ralf Hilbich, said: “I’m absolutely delighted we’ve received this prestigious award for the BC4 Flight Timer. We always
knew that the design and testing work we did with the pilots was invaluable. At Oris form always follows function and to win a red dot design award is fantastic.”

As a graphic designer, I'm fascinated by the crossroads between technology and aesthetics. Horology is one of these crafts, where art and engineering come together to produce mechanical wonders that grace the eye. WatchPaper was born from the desire to create an online tool where I can share my passion for watches.
