Botta-Design NOVA – new single hand watch

Botta-Design NOVA

Botta-Design NOVA, Black Edition

For fans of German design, Botta-Design is a household name thanks to the famous Botta UNO, a single hand watch that also has a 24-hour dial version. With the NOVA, Klaus Botta is guided by the words of Saint-Exupery: “It seems that perfection is attained, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing more to take away.”

He’s proposing an even more minimalist design; on the NOVA dial you’ll find only an hour hand and a 12-hour scale, without a subscale keeping the reading of time more of a carefree and tolerant business, where the minutes lose their importance.
When looking at the dial, the attention is immediately attracted to the tip of the green hour hand, the only colourful spot on the watch. The rest of the hand is masked by an opaque disk applied to the back of the domed sapphire glass, an approach Klaus Botta has already took in 2005, when designing the CLAVIUS watch.

The 44 mm case comes in three versions: the PVD coated Black Edition, stainless steel with black disk or the more feminine stainless steel with white disk.

When it comes to the movement – as with other Botta-Design pieces – you have the choice between quartz and automatic. The quartz model is 6.2 mm thin and it is powered by the Swiss Ronda 704 and if you order it now, before December, the price is €348 (-21% VAT if you’re outside the EU). You can find it here www.botta-design.de/en/einzeigeruhr-nova.html

The automatic at 8.8 mm, is still very thin. It is powered by an ETA 2824-2 and the pre-order price is €790, again extract 21% for non-EU clients. For more details on the automatic NOVA, head over to www.botta-design.de/en/einzeigeruhr-nova-carbon.html

I got the confirmation from Botta-Design, they can ship the NOVA internationally and it’ll arrive before Christmas. Why not? This could be a great Christmas gift for him or her.

As a graphic designer, I'm fascinated by the crossroads between technology and aesthetics. Horology is one of these crafts, where art and engineering come together to produce mechanical wonders that grace the eye. WatchPaper was born from the desire to create an online tool where I can share my passion for watches.
