Right throughout its history, Ferrari has sought to satisfy its most devoted and enthusiastic clients with a special series of limited edition motorcars. Famous models include the F40 and F50 made to mark the anniversary of the founding of the Maranello House, or the recent Enzo FXX, the 360 Modena Challenge Stradale and the F430 Scuderia. Furthermore, the end of the most recent racing season witnessed the unveiling of the Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16 M, made to celebrate Ferrari’s recent victory in the Formula 1 World Constructors’ Championships, and in just 499 units.

As part of its alliance with Ferrari, Officine Panerai has also come up with a new special edition model, to be made in just 100 units: a watch dedicated to the collector and connoisseur who likes to wear a time piece that is rare yet at the same time sporty in spirit: the Ferrari Chronograph 45 mm, DLC Engineered by Officine Panerai (FER00038).

It’s a twin counter chronograph, whose total black visual impact – steel case with special black DLC coating, black dial, and natural black rubber strap with Ferrari inscription – perfectly sets off the colour elements on the dial: the classic yellow shield and the Ferrari logo at 12 o’clock, two counters in red like its Arabic numerals and seconds hand. And, for the very first time, a Ferrari Engineered by Officine Panerai watch features a silhouette of the Ferrari racing car, at 6 o’clock.

The innovative DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) treatment – also used in the construction of certain details on a Ferrari vehicle – is achieved through the evaporation of carbon, making the case exceptionally shock and scratch resistant.

With simplicity on the one hand, and all the technology and design of a watch that can boast the brand’s typical high precision, solidity and reliability on the other, the Panerai OP XII calibre – 13 ¼ lignes, and 28,800 alternations/ hour – of the Ferrari Chronograph 45 mm Engineered by Officine Panerai comes with C.O.S.C. certification.

As a graphic designer, I'm fascinated by the crossroads between technology and aesthetics. Horology is one of these crafts, where art and engineering come together to produce mechanical wonders that grace the eye. WatchPaper was born from the desire to create an online tool where I can share my passion for watches.
