Blancpain Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph Blancpain Ocean Commitment II (BOC II), the first watch with an all-blue ceramic case.

Part of the Blancpain Ocean Commitment 2014-2016 in support of marine conservation, Blancpain is introducing the new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph, the first watch with an all-blue ceramic case, bezel insert, crown and push pieces. This colouring is achieved by adding pigments during the ceramic production process, together with a binding agent. It requires using two different techniques that up until now, it had not yielded sufficiently stable results for the blue colour range and it was impossible to obtain a perfectly identical colour for the two techniques. After years of research, Blancpain has finally managed to master the injection method for blue ceramic used for the pushers and the crown, that would match the shade of the ceramic case and bezel insert produced by compaction process.

The Bathyscape BOC II has a diameter of 43.6 mm and height of 15.25 mm and it is water resistant to 300 meters.

Under the hood, it is powered by the F385 column-wheel flyback chronograph, beating at 36,000 vph (5 Hz), and it is equipped with variable-inertia balance with gold screws, ensuring increased robustness and more precise adjustment than the usual index device. This has a vertical clutch that ensures faultless operation of the chronograph and eliminates any unexpected jerking of the watch hand when the chronograph is engaged. The F385 is equipped with silicon balance spring and it has a power reserve of 50 hours.

Limited to only 250 pieces, Blancpain will donate 1,000 Euro for each watch sold, for a total of 250,000 Euros in support of the oceans.

Horology is one of these crafts, where art and engineering come together to produce mechanical wonders that grace the eye. WatchPaper was born from the desire to create an online tool where I can share my passion for watches.
