Melbourne Watch Co Avalon on Kickstarter

The “Avalon” by Melbourne Watch Company

Among microbrands, Melbourne Watch Company is one of the heavy weights, they went from one success to another since the release of their first model at the end of 2013.

After Portsea, their nautical inspired piece, here is their latest model, Avalon, named after Melbourne’s Avalon Airfield. This 45 mm black DLC coated watch is borrowing elements from classic pilot’s pieces while combining them with modern ingredients.

I find it particularly interesting the idea to have an open heart design for a pilot piece. On the black dial, at six o’clock we can admire the Miyota 90S5 automatic movement, with bright yellow stripe decoration, a direct hint to the aviation DNA of this piece.

After only two days, the campaign is fully founded thanks to the growing number of faithful fans of the brand and of course because of the appeal of the Avalon. Early birds have all flown away, what is left start at $625 AUD, discounted from the MSRP of $799 AUD after the Avalon is released.

As a graphic designer, I'm fascinated by the crossroads between technology and aesthetics. Horology is one of these crafts, where art and engineering come together to produce mechanical wonders that grace the eye. WatchPaper was born from the desire to create an online tool where I can share my passion for watches.
