Jazz giant honoured by Oris

Oris’ track record in producing limited edition watches is almost as distinguished as the track record of the man to whom Oris dedicates its latest jazz watch: Oscar Peterson.

Regarded by many as the greatest jazz pianist of all time, his career and chosen instrument inspired the special design features of this elegant watch.

The delicately applied indices take the form of piano keys and sit atop a central dial ring with concentric grooves. This dial ring is reminiscent of an LP and refers to the hundreds of recordings Oscar Peterson made during his career.

Oscar Peterson loved watches with Roman numerals and this limited edition honours that – even displaying the VIII in gold plate – a reference to the eight Grammys he won during his lifetime.

The case back carries the Oscar Peterson lion logo and the limited edition number from 0001/1925 to 1925/1925, chosen because it was the year the great man was born.

Oscar Peterson’s talent knew no bounds: the Oris Oscar Peterson Limited Edition is a fitting tribute to a jazz giant.

It’s all in the design

The Oris TT3 is back – with a vengeance and it’s ready to wipe the track with other motor sports watches. Excited by the Type 997 Porsche cars driven in competition by Darryl O’Young, the PCCA Double Class A Champion, Oris has designed two watches with a cool, sporty and technical look. Each model is limited to 997 units – a nod to the Type 997 Porsches.

Influenced by the technical features on the awesome Porsche 911 GT3 RSR and the 911 GT3 Cup, both sizes of watch (43.50 mm and 41.00 mm) guarantee maximum wearer comfort. The curved cases are black DLC coated for durability as well as added style. The sporty rubber strap with its flexible lugs ensures a snug fit on the wrist.

The unusual glass dial is printed with a wheel rim pattern and offers a glimpse of the quality automatic mechanical movement, as well as the calendar date wheel. This creates an eye-catching 3D layered dial effect. The Superluminova numerals on the dial are the same Microgramma typeface as used on the Porsche cars.

Seeing the quality Oris mechanical movement as the individual pieces move and turn is like watching Darryl as he drives around the track: smooth, controlled and dynamic.

Everybody off the track…TT3 is back!

Two aviation legends; one watch

To commemorate the life of the legendary Hawker Hunter jet, top Swiss pilot’s watchmaker Oris, introduces the latest model in its aviation collection.

The awesome Hunter took the world by storm when it first flew in the UK in 1951. Seven years later it came to Switzerland and became a linchpin of the Swiss Air Force. Although the Hunter has since been retired in Switzerland it continues to fly thanks to the Swiss Hunter Team of the ‘Fliegermuseum Altenrhein’, a unique group of former Swiss Air Force pilots who were inspired to fly by the Hunter. The Oris Swiss Hunter Team Limited Edition reflects both the strength of the jet and the quality of its design.
The 46mm anthracite PVD coated case projects an elegant silhouette with its gentle curves, bevelled top ring and oversized screw down crown. The dial is presented in the unmistakable Oris style of a cockpit flight instrument. The tiny Hunter jet on the pointer calendar hand is another nod to the inspiration for this limited edition pilot’s watch.

Oris movement 644 is the quality engine at the heart of this mighty craft, and it is clearly visible through the glass case back. Marked with the logo of the Swiss Hunter Team the case back also shows Oris’ support for the men who continue to keep the magnificent Hunter flying.

The Oris Swiss Hunter Team Limited Edition is presented in a magnificent box set, which includes an original Hunter ejection seat safety splint key ring. Marked with the same limited edition number as the watch it accompanies from 0001/1958 to 1958/1958 (the year the Hunter first came to Switzerland) it helps to make the set an essential collector’s item for all aviation enthusiasts.

The latest addition to the Oris BC4 Aviation collection is another essential flight instrument, a vital piece of cockpit equipment. This pilot’s watch was created using feedback from the experts from our daredevil aviation partner, the Blue Eagles Helicopter Display Team.

Whilst the basic construction and vital statistics of the case and the dial are classic BC4, this watch offers something genuinely new – and it is something not everyone notices at first glance.

The Regulateur movement has a centralised, stand-alone minute hand. This makes the minute display even easier to read accurately as the hour and second hands never cover it.

Even in times of modern technology and GPS navigation, a watch remains indispensable for every pilot. To carry out his flight plan successfully the pilot measures the time between each waypoint. When the set time has elapsed, the pilot knows he must move to the next heading. The BC4 “Der Meisterflieger” is the ideal companion to the flight plan.

The minute numerals on the dial are unique to this Oris model and add to the instrument feel of the watch.

The rotating dial ring, operated by the distinctive vertical crown at 2 o’clock can be set to a countdown scale to show a pilot how much time remains before he needs to change his course.

Where accuracy is essential, Oris is on board.

Oris BC4 „Der Meisterflieger“

Ø 42.70mm
Ref: 649 7632 41 64 LS/MB
Automatic mechanical movement. Centralised minute display. Hour display at 3 o’clock, small second at 9 o’clock, date at 6 o’clock.
Multi-piece stainless steel case secured with seven screws. Prominent vertical crown at 2 o’clock (operates moveable minute scale dial ring). See through glass case back. Sapphire glass domed on both sides with inner anti-reflective coating.
Two-piece black dial with applied nickel indices and printed Superluminova numerals. Polished nickel hands with luminous inlay.

Hölstein, 3rd May 2009 – With its innovative and outstanding design, the Oris BC4 Flight Timer has won a 2009 red dot: best of the best Award in the category of Product Design. Today the red dot design award is the best known and most competitive international design prize.

Just 49 products from the 3231 that were entered from companies in 49 different countries were given a best of the best accolade in 2009.

The international red dot jury takes many criteria – including innovation, functionality, quality, longevity and user-friendliness – into consideration before making its decision.

The BC4 Flight Timer was recognised for its many outstanding design features, including its ability to display three time zones simultaneously on one dial. This is made possible by the Oris-developed Worldtimer movement.

The compass and innovative folding clasp design also helped to convince the jury.

Oris’ Product Development Manager, Ralf Hilbich, said: “I’m absolutely delighted we’ve received this prestigious award for the BC4 Flight Timer. We always
knew that the design and testing work we did with the pilots was invaluable. At Oris form always follows function and to win a red dot design award is fantastic.”

Ready for action: 24 hours a day

Baselworld 2009 Press Release – To celebrate the 40th anniversary of our aviation partner, the Blue Eagles Helicopter Display Team, Oris proudly presents the Blue Eagles Limited Edition. Based on the watches from the BC4 aviation collection this watch is just as spectacular as the team’s displays.

The shape of the case is unmistakably Oris BC4 but this model is bigger, bolder and the top ring and case back are coated in black DLC for a stand out look. The stainless steel case centre is silver, giving the watch a distinctive two colour, sandwich construction.

The full 24-hour display is a first for Oris and offers an invaluable full overview of the time. This central display is made possible by the new Cal. 653 movement developed by Oris. The day and night zones are marked in black and white for maximum readability.

The second time zone is displayed on the moveable inner dial ring operated by the vertical crown at 2 o’clock. The Oris Quick Lock Crown system prevents accidental adjustments in a world where split second timing is essential.

Although limited to just 1969 pieces, this is where the limitations of the Oris Blue Eagles Limited Edition end A genuine pilots’ watch: practical, robust and ready for action 24-hours a day. Just like the pilots who inspired it.

Superlatives in parallel design
Oris Press Release, Hölstein, 30th January 2009 – This is what can be achieved when two companies sharing a passion for sports cars and who have achieved international success through high performance come together: a watch made in motor sport heaven.

The Oris designers have worked with RUF engineers to produce the limited edition Oris RUF CTR3 Chronograph – a masterpiece of Swiss craftsmanship inspired by one of the fastest street cars on the planet.

The case is made of lightweight titanium and has a tachymeter top ring made from highly durable ceramic. The tachymeter scale is marked with the number 375 – indicating the top speed of the RUF CTR3: 375 km/h.

The eye-catching dial reflects the dials on the CTR3 dashboard in both shape and colour with Superluminova numerals, and the distinctive RUF logo. The chronograph is operated by the stainless steel pushers and the crown is secured by the Oris Quick Lock Crown system.

The limited number of each watch is engraved on the side of the case at 9 o’clock and the famous Oris red rotor – the power behind the style – carries the CTR3 logo.

Limited to just 3000 pieces the watch is presented in a set with a scale model of the RUF CTR3.

This is slick motor sport design at its best: functional features with outstanding good looks.

A Tribute to Bob Dylan

Oris Press Release – Hölstein, 30th January 2009 – In one of his greatest hits, Bob Dylan sings that “The Times They Are A-Changin” but the great man himself remains constant. In the sixties he came to prominence as the unofficial voice of the counterculture and has since become one of the most influential and successful artists of all time. As an international star in the worlds of folk and rock music he sang his way into the hearts of a generation with his distinctive voice and poetic lyrics. He is quite simply a multitalented living legend: singer-songwriter, poet, musician, author and painter.

As a tribute to Bob Dylan, Oris has created a special edition Rectangular model, limited to just 3000 pieces worldwide. The stainless steel cased watches carry Bob Dylan’s signature on the finely patterned dial. His portrait is engraved on the case back along with the limited edition number of the watch. A small glass window offers a glimpse of the complex mechanical movement with the famous Oris red rotor.

Bob Dylan has experimented in more different fields than any other artist but has always returned to his musical roots. The watch design reflects this in its use of slick modern proportions, which make it stylish rather than fashionable. This exclusive Oris limited edition comes in a presentation box set with a Hohner Marine Band harmonica – the instrument for which Dylan is best known.

The Oris Rectangular “Bob Dylan” Limited Edition: an exception to all the rules. Solo and unplugged.

Oris Press Release – Hölstein, 11th November 2008 – To mark Kazuki Nakajima’s debut F1 season Oris, as the Official Watch Partner of the AT&T Williams Formula One team, has created the Limited Edition Oris Kazuki Nakajima Day Date. A dynamic watch in black PVD coated stainless steel it is limited to just 1,088 pieces – all individually numbered.

The design of the watch reflects Kazuki’s world and takes inspiration from his Williams FW30. The see through case back offers a glimpse of the mechanical movement and the famous Oris red rotor – this time with Kazuki’s logo. This powers him around the track. The rubber strap bears the distinctive F1 tyre tread pattern and the openings on the dial were inspired by the breathing slots in Kazuki’s racing helmet.

The stainless steel case and crown are black PVD coated to add an extra injection of dynamic Kazuki style.

Kazuki’s 2008 racing number (8) is highlighted on the minute scale top ring and his signature appears in red below the middle of the dial. The final special design feature is the second hand in the red and white of the Japanese flag.

The watch has all the hallmarks of an Oris motor sport watch, including the trademark flexible lugs which ensure a perfect fit on every wrist.

It’s a must for every Kazuki fan – the man himself wears number 8: an enduring reminder of his first full Formula One season.
