The watch nerd’s Instagram must-follow: @mrelico

I have to admit, it took me quite a long time to give Instagram a try. Everyone was telling me how amazing it is for sharing pictures and how important it would be for WatchPaper to have a presence there. Finally, I gave in and since then, I’m completely hooked. Of course, I do my best to follow all the watch brands, major watch publications, experts and Instagram stars, one of their millions of followers. Instagram became my go-to social network to discover new watches and especially, the platform where I get inspired and try to learn/steal new watch photography tricks.

In my list, I also have a few accounts that are less known, but they keep posting exceptional photos and I think every watch nerd will be happy to follow them. One of them is @mrelico, by Elie, the owner of Bijouterie Eli&Co, on Montreal’s famous St-Catherin Boulevard. You can see that his pictures are thought to be more than a basic wrist shot, for him the background, even if it’s blurred, plays an important role in bringing out the beauty of the watch. He is not into super high-end tourbillons or limited edition platinum pieces, he rather prefers entry level watches, mainly Hamilton and Oris, but Elie is a master in presenting them in a way as if they were the ultimate grail. His Instagram feed is that of a hedonist that knows how to enjoy life with plenty of croissants, coffee, great whisky, fantastic views and cool watches.

As a graphic designer, I'm fascinated by the crossroads between technology and aesthetics. Horology is one of these crafts, where art and engineering come together to produce mechanical wonders that grace the eye. WatchPaper was born from the desire to create an online tool where I can share my passion for watches.
