Cutting edge tracking of horse races with the Longines Positioning System

The history of horse racing goes way back to the early days of human civilization. People were always thrilled by the battle of horse power — real horse power — and skill, way before it’s modern version, the F1. If Formula One teams, racegoers and those that follow a race on a screen are used to have access to a plethora of real-time data, hors racing was lacking a similar technology. Not any more, as Longines, who has been involved in time measurement at horse races ever since 1878, unveiled a cutting edge timekeeping and tracking technology.

Called the Longines Positioning System (LPS), it provides real-time data on the exact position of horses during a race, race rankings, the distance between horses and speed. It boasts accuracy down to 5 centimetres and features up to 1,000 measurements per second.

Juan Carlos Capelli, the Vice President and Head of International Marketing of Longines declared:

“For Longines, investing in technological advancements is the latest step in our long term relationship with horse racing. The Longines Positioning System delivers a number of benefits to the sport and is a game-changer for the racing industry.

Whether you are a horse racing enthusiast, a world renowned jockey or a TV broadcaster, access to more accurate, flexible data allows you to understand, share and act on the intricacies of performance as never before. We are excited to see how the LPS technology can be utilized in the future to improve the experience for racing spectators, TV viewers and even smart phone and tablet users.  There is no question that live performance data enhances viewing experience and depth of understanding. Understanding leads to improvement, and improvement leads to winning: for all.”
