Longines, in collaboration with the International Ski Federation (FIS), announces that preparations for its second annual Longines Future Ski Champions are now underway. This race program for skiers under the age of 16 will feature skiers from 14 countries around the world – including Canada – and be held at host resort Val d’Isère, France.

Last year, at the first edition, it was the 15-years-old Cameron Dymond of Osler Bluff Ski Club, Blue Mountain, Ontario who represented Canada. This year, Alpine Canada has selected another member of Osler Bluff Ski Club, the 15-year-old Brianna Macdonald as Canada’s only under-16 female representative in the program. Brianna has been a competitive skier since the age of 11 and has won numerous honours including the overall series title at the Alpine Ontario U16 Provincials in March 2014 and the Nancy Green Trophy at the U14 Whistler Cup in April 2013.

The Longines Future Ski Champions competition is held on the official slope of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup – on the lower section of the legendary Oreiller-Killy run – and includes a giant slalom with two runs. The length of the slope is 30-to-40-seconds. The four-day event, which includes one-day of competition, gives skiers the same experience as competitors in the World Cup Alpine Skiing events organized by the FIS (International Ski Federation). The timekeeping will be handled by the same Longines Timing as the World Cup and the award ceremony will also mirror the professionals.

The winning skier will be presented with the Longines Ski Champions trophy and an elegant Longines watch. The winner’s national ski association will receive $20,000 to be invested in its activities for young skiers. The official Longines watch of the 2014/2015 Alpine Skiing season is the new Conquest collection chronograph able to display time to one hundredth of a second, the Conquest 1/100th Alpine Skiing.
